At last, an ESL book that informs, educates and challenges

I've taught all levels of ESl for a dozen or so years, and have found most books in this area to be excruciatingly dull, one-dimensional and at best condescending to non-native English speakers. I can't begin to tell you how good (relieving?) it is to teach from Milada Broukal's Weaving It Together, book 3. Not only do my students truly enjoy the stories, which are extremely well-written and contain a potpouri of topics, but they benefit from a wide range of activities taking them from pre-writing to revising. This superb book, for anyone teaching an advanced level skills class in reading and writing, gives students a paradigm to emulate while at the same time egging him or her on to better writing with interesting readings and useful, enriching activities.

Great 2nd book of series

William and Rafe's story is a great addition to this series. I really enjoyed reading it.

The Kindle version has a some misspelled or wrong words used throughout it which didn't stop me from reading. The third book is on Theo and Darcey and I will definitely download it as soon as I'm done with posting this review.

I only enjoyed this book. Needs a little editing the mistakes start to take you away from the story. Mostly the telling of the story through every characters POV, started to grate on me. Was not sucked in enough to want to read the next installment. Thank you.

Good Introduction

This book is a good introduction to a difficult topic. The authors don't focus on just the traditional "Costra Nostra" topics that many authors fall prey too. The authors carefully blend National and International Organized Crime (OC)Groups, Theories of OC and methods for controling the spread and growth of the groups.
The book is written in a textbook fashion and the authors provide keywords at the end of each chapter to assit the student in learning the main points of each chapter.
Both the authors appear very knowledgable in this subject and they continue to add current information into their newer additions.

Outstanding

I just received my copy today and the drawings are outstanding. There are 44 beautifully drawn angels printed on a fairly heavy paper that is similar to that in the Johanna Basford books, much better than the paper in the Creative Haven books (not knocking the Creative Haven series, as I have several of them and am quite satisfied with their quality). The cover illustration is a good representation of the size and level of detail included in the book.

Opposite each drawing is a beautifully framed verse or message from your angels, suitable for framing itself if you so desire. However, the pages are double-sided, so you will have to decide which side of the page you want to frame--message or angel.

I was very happy to discover that all pages are perforated for easy removal which I think makes it easier to work on a drawing. None of the drawings disappear into the binding. Most of the angels could easily be cut out of the page after completion and used as part of a collage. The only problem I see is deciding which drawing to complete first!

Wonderful designs, nicely published

I am very picky when it comes to coloring books and don't buy a whole lot, despite being a dedicated colorists, especially when they cost more than $6 or so. I made an exception with this book because I am familiar with Doreen Virtue and the books she has been publishing for a while. She didn't do the illustrations, she wrote the messages, Norma J. Burnell did them, but they are fantastic. From what I gather by conducting research, Norma is a very accomplished artist.

The average book has 31 designs, this one has over 40. (the book has 96 pages in all, but the designs are single sided). I was pleasantly surprised at the paper thickness and quality because books that have more designs are usually cheaping out on paper. This one did not. The angels are on one side of the page, and the backsides have inspiring messages on them. Pages are perforated for easy removal.

If there is one thing that I find a bit difficult is that a lot of the designs fade into the paper. However, I am not deducting points for that. While my personal preference would be for full designs, not fade-outs, that doesn't mean others would not like this. I've used colored pencils, markers and gel pens, and they all work wonderfully with this book.

Love it as i did with her fairies one. The angles are beautiful and also the messages are right on!!!! I just wish the bodies had been a bit smaller and finished. complete with legs and feet, the bottom half is just left off. but, I still love this book and love coloring in it and watching the Angels come to life! you will love this book if you enjoy coloring Angels as i do. Love the way their faces are, where you can color the eyes and lips. so real. not disappointed here at all

About the Author

David Colander is Distinguished College Professor at Middlebury College. He has authored, coauthored, or edited over 40 books and over 150 articles on a wide range of economic topics.

He earned his B.A. at Columbia College and his M.Phil. and Ph.D. at Columbia University. He also studied at the University of Birmingham in England and at Wilhelmsburg Gymnasium in Germany. Professor Colander has taught at Columbia University, Vassar College, the University of Miami, and Princeton University as the Kelley Professor of Distinguished Teaching. He has also been a consultant to Time-Life Films, a consultant to Congress, a Brookings Policy Fellow, and Visiting Scholar at Nuffield College, Oxford.

He has been president of both the History of Economic Thought Society and the Eastern Economics Association. He has also served on the editorial boards of the Journal of Economic Perspectives, The Journal of Economic Education, The Journal of Economic Methodology, The Journal of the History of Economic Thought, The Journal of Socio-Economics, and The Eastern Economic Journal. He has been chair of the AEA Committee on Electronic Publishing, a member of the AEA Committee on Economic Education, and is currently the associate editor for content of the Journal of Economic Education.

He is married to a pediatrician, Patrice. In their spare time, the Colanders designed and built an oak post-and-beam house on a ridge overlooking the Green Mountains to the east and the Adirondacks to the west. The house is located on the site of a former drive-in movie theater. (They replaced the speaker poles with fruit trees and used the I-beams from the screen as support for the second story of the carriage house and the garage.) They now live in both Florida and Vermont.

I'm still in the process of using this book for my college class, however I must say I really like how it is written. It is easy to follow which is a must since my class is online. This book arrived very quickly and was in very good used condition, just as I expected.

About the Author
Adam Tomkins is Fellow and Tutor in Law at St Catherine's College, Oxford. He was previously Lecturer (1991-1999) and Senior Lecturer (1999-2000) at the School of Law, King's College, London. A well-respected and highly published author, his works include The Constitution after Scott (OUP, 1998) and Sceptical Essays on Human Rights (OUP, 2001), co-edited with Tom Campbell and Keith Ewing.

An ideal place to (re)start

This book offers an introductory exposition of the English public law, which is ideal for the reader that is looking for a general overview of the field either as a newcomer or as someone already familiarized with it but wants to look it afresh. It has all the virtues of every good introduction: is fairly short, systematic and straightforward. But it has, at the same time, other virtues which are rare in clear and brief introductory texts like this one. It gives an account of public law that is lively reflexive and it is informed by an acute historical consciousness. In every important point (the doctrine of sovereignty of Parliament, the Ministerial Accountability, and so on) it offers a picture of the evolution of the matter without hiding the open possibilities and ambiguities behind the actual state of the latter.

It is not indeed a cold sub specie aeternitatis exposition of the subject, but one that gives due attention to the struggles and risks behind every step of the evolution it reconstructs. This book situates in this way the present state of the English public law in the formation and evolution of the British constitution, and situates itself, as a study on public law, within the English scholarly tradition public law and its transformations. It is an opinionated but well founded introduction that not only takes a justified position in every important debate on the subject, but it presents to the reader, from the very beginning, its general approach (crucially when sustaining that the important aspect of the English constitution is not its 'unwritten' but its 'political' character). Finally, the book not only embraces all the main aspects of the British constitution, but it contains a bibliographical essay with a careful selection of sources on the matters discussed in each chapter.
