1st Edition Book, not perfect, but still a good buy.

Pros:
- Book is well divided and easy to use
- Detailed explanations (better than Princeton Review's "plug it in" method)
- Good value. $11 for over 700 pages
- Good insight into the essay section

Cons
- Extremely weak grammar. No explanations on grammar usage or why a certain choice is correct
- Answer explanations take out a huge chunk of the book. (Pages 525-729)
- Some typos. I've marked down a few so far. Pg 667, B should be D, etc. There are a few more.
- Only 1 practice test in the book. You have to register online to receive the other two.
- Another reviewer pointed this out: that the stats section was weak. Imo, the sections are designed for review--not to learning. However, I could see a student that has no idea what stats are struggling.
- No scoring (this is not Kaplan's fault, but because the collegeboard hasn't released a scoring scale yet)

Difficulty Level:
7/10. I expect the actual SAT to be a little more difficult

Should I take the current or new SAT?
If you're a member of the class of 2017, I recommend the current one if you are concerned with math. The new SAT adds new topics such as stats, trig, data analytics, etc. Additionally, I found that many "common core, real life scenario" problems took longer for students to read. Who cares if Bob owns a barber shop in Texas????

Overall, I'll give plaudits to Kaplan for being the first to release a review book for the new SAT. Is it perfect? No. In fact, I would recommend that you wait for the 2nd edition if you are in the class of 2018.

Not as good as the College Board version

Many people like the Kaplan method, but I find the explanations a bit labored. This may help weaker students, but could be demotivating for the brighter ones aiming for the top scores. Another drawback is that the book only contains one practice test - the other two are online. This is less than ideal for students who wish to prepare under real test conditions. We bought both this book and the College Board version to help our son to prepare for the new-style SAT. I think that the College Board book is significantly better. It has four full tests within the book and a smartphone app to help you grade the tear-out bubble sheets instantly. This makes the College Board book a much better bet for those looking to practice the new SAT under real test conditions.

3 words. THANK YOU BUNMI

Fair warning, I haven't finished. I didn't need to. I love reading because it provides an escape. This on the other hand...this book reassured me that I'm not alone. If you aren't a mom, it won't make sense. I know because before I was a mom, I didn't appreciate the power coffee had. I didn't understand the real joy Target provided. I didn't understand what lonely was. I didn't understand that once this child was here things would NEVER be the same, you just get a quick reminder of how things were every once in a while. You know who gets it? BUNMI. Even if you can't fully relate to Ashley, you appreciate her struggle because her struggle is all of our struggle. I wasn't a former business woman turn stay at home mom but when we moved to a different state I was in a new world and now a stay at home mom. I get the "bread winning" husband comments and how utterly boring it can be staying at home entertaining a kid with NO end in sight. But then you get so lost in how amazing they are and how lucky you are and that gives you balance. We aren't alone. People get us. Those people just also happen to be hot mess moms like ourselves striving to be better for our kids whether it be through crazy pinterest projects or a walk to the coffee shop. Bunmi gets us. And thank God she was able to capture that in her book. Sorry, I'm rambling but....there's a reason this book is SOLD OUT ON AMAZON right now...

More life... this book is everything! ❤️

I'm writing this review one chapter in and still sitting in my bathroom. I left the kids at the dinner table with what I though was a slam dunk meal, I guess I was wrong because twin B is feeding the dog his meal. Gawd, I just want some peace and quiet. Anyhow, I normally don't write reviews but I knew from the moment I ordered this that I would love it! It has already spoken to me and I'm grateful for the connection. Grateful I'm not alone. Motherhood is tough. But we are the best ones for the job! Now I must get out of this bathroom, the potty training pee smell is a bit too much.

Review:
When I read through the list of books coming out on Tuesday, I saw the title and thought, “Yeah, I should read that.” Then I realized it was the first novel from Bunmi Laditan, the mom behind Honest Toddler. I figured I would laugh as I reminisced the whole time about being a mom of little ones (my kids are 7 and almost 5 now) and I definitely did have some moments of “yup, happened to us:” getting vomited on in the store and not being ready (who’s READY for that), getting peed on as you hug your child (suggestion, don’t hug it naked until it’s toilet trained), and getting woken up at the crack of dawn (or midnight, then 2 a.m., then 4 a.m.) by a screaming kid when your husband snores straight through EVERY.TIME.
But then I also realized Ashley’s life and my life, not so different even now that my kids are older. I still don’t have mommy friends – I have a few mommy acquaintances, but nobody I really hang out with or talk to on a regular basis. And I never had mommy friends. I wished I did at the time, and now I wish that there were other kids around for my kids to play with (or mommy friends with same-aged kids whom I could hang out with on the weekends).
My house? Still a disaster. We have pre-kid IKEA furniture that is mostly broken (and I won’t replace until The People stop breaking things…when does that occur by the way?). While there aren’t piles-o-laundry, there are baskets-o-laundry (makes them look more organized). And there is a toy corner where toys go to die as well as there are toys strewn about the boys’ room. I totally need to pick that up and get rid of some of it. Sink of Dishes is pretty typical at my house as well – especially if the dishwasher is clean and full. Who wants to put THAT away?
These are all the things I thought of as I read Confessions. And I felt a little better about myself when I finished because “it wasn’t just me!” And then I read the other reviews and other moms realized it wasn’t just them!
So wait, where did this b.s. stereotype of Awesome Pinterest Mom come from if a bunch of us aren’t it?
Anywho, the book. You should read it. It is fun. It is funny. The initial chapters didn’t pull me in for some reason but I kept reading because I figured it would eventually, and I wasn’t wrong. It’s definitely Mom Brain Candy (or No Bake Truffles from Pinterest).

Tim Schmoyer has over 63,000 youtube subscribers, so I think it's safe to say that he knows what he's talking about when it comes to creating a youtube channel that gets noticed. The information in this course will change the way you think about your channel. It covers everything from Channel Branding (images, channel sections, thumbnails, etc.) to how to use keywords and titles to attract the right viewers to your videos.

For those of you who are worried about the price - look at it this way. The book is laid out so that everyday there's a different lesson. You are paying only $1.00 per lesson.

Actually, that's not true. There are bonus resources and lessons in here so you're actually paying less than $1.00 a lesson.

So the question then becomes, how much is it worth it to you to have a highly optimized channel that gets views and subscribers?

I have taken other youtube courses before, and I have studied other youtube books as well, and none of them have the vast amount of knowledge that this book does. So if you're serious about getting more subscribers and views, if you're ready to launch an incredible channel that you can be proud of, then you need to get your hands on this book!

First of all I bought it directly from Tim Schmoyer's website (which is why I don't have the verified purchase mark)

I heard great things about the book and thus, I bought it. Tim Schmoyer created a good 30 day plan hence the name or title of the book, he greatly pitches the plan with well though-out written tips. Each day he has a specific task that he talks to you about and wants you to do something that has to do with the task at hand.

But the reason I didn't give it 5 stars is because it's full of basic information and tips I found for free on the internet reading articles on youtube and watching youtube videos that centered around "how to make your channel grow" and what-not.

I also have to say that I have been on youtube for a while but I started a channel in 2014 and it already has 17k subscribers, so someone like me wasn't really going to need this, I thought it was going to contain different information that I have never come across before, (which is why I bought it).

So bottom line is - if you are new to youtube and you haven't read articles or seen videos on making your channel bigger and look more professional, in other words if you have no idea of what you are doing, you have two options, OPTION 1 - buy this book, OPTION 2 -look up the information on the web (if you have the time and patience).

In spite of the tremendous information-carrying capacity of optical fibers, the performance of today's communication systems is limited by electronics speed in signal regeneration. There is a need for more efficient and cost-effective technologies to satisfy both transoceanic and terrestrial communication demands which continue to grow. Even 8 years later a very valuable book to own!

This is a great book! I have used it steadily for the last 3 years. Hardly a week goes by without my consulting it. I have learned many, many ideas concerning rare-earth doped fiber amplifiers from Desurvire's book. I have checked with my own calculations a large number of his equations and numerical results and I have found no significant errors. I have recalculated the curves in more than 10 figures with virtually no discrepancies. In my experience it is rare to find a book that even gives you enough information to check its results. The book comes with a two-page erratum to help you fix the few misprints. The reference list is comprehensive and complete up to the publication date. In the year 2001, there are naturally many topics that are missing from a book that was finished in April of 1993, but this does not decrease the importance of Desurvire's book because it treats so many basic topics at a fundamental level. I believe than any serious designer or researcher in the area of rare-earth-doped fiber lasers and amplifiers should have this book. There are other good books that are very useful for certain design applications, but they are not a substitute for this book.

Good news and bad news about EDFAs

**Good** news for engineers and physicists : Volume II of "The EDFA book" is in progress, and will be released soon. The first volume, published in 1994, still provides unmatched reference for serious understanding of the complex EDFA physics. However, for causality reasons, it does not cover industrial developments that will appear only years later. Such developments have been sketched by more recent, wide-audience and shorter introductory books, but of limited use to the true specialists. Volume II will bridge such a gap and will provide the first XXIst century update in this field.
**Bad** news for some 'millioneers' in quest of quick-and-dirty EDFA expertise : Volume II will be as involved as volume I on the physics and mathematics side, while it will cover in depth the most recent industrial developments, with detailed contributions from corporate- and internationally-recognized developers. Definitely not to put in any hands or recommend to people who don't need to "know".

The EDFA "Bible"

Rarely an author captures the essense of the topic he/she is covering in such depth and clarity as E. Desurvire does in his EDFA book. Over the years I have found the book extremely useful and helpful in understanding all the intriguing notions involved in the EDFA performance. The book exposes the fundamental EDFA issues in great depth and detail and therefore it will always remain relevant and extremely useful. It always helps when the author of a book is one of the pioneers in the field he/she is covering.
