Lots of drama, both erotic and character-driven, permeate this must-read story for lovers of kinky, paranormal erotica!

I am a huge fan of paranormal erotica and this book sets up a lot of interesting character storylines that pulled me into this story very quickly. There are a lot of different erotic kinks that will satisfy readers who like some creative variety in their erotica. The male hero Connor is coming into his new powers as a werewolf and is surrounded by a bevy of hot, willing women who are all subconsciously attracted to him on a primal level. Of course, Connor also has a sweet, innocent girlfriend who is unaware that he is a werewolf although she seems to have paranormal secrets of her own. Lots of drama, both erotic and character-driven, permeate this story and make it a must-read for those who love kinky, paranormal erotica!

Couldn't Finish

I have read other books by this author, but this is the first I have reviewed. Reed James has some interesting ideas, but the execution is flawed. He has all the problems one would expect from an unsophisticated amateur author: homonym confusion (your-you're), verb usage (had went), unnecessary words, even adjective order. Another issue is the choice to employ shifting first-person point of view here. I got about half-way through the story and gave up. It wasn't as entertaining as some of the author's other works and it wasn't worth my time to finish. The author could improve his writing if he found a competent editor to review it before putting it up for sale.

Revealing cross-cultural exercise on theodicy

In Fariduddin Attar’s (d. 1221) Musibatname, the tragedy of Satan’s outsized love for God who won’t submit to anybody else than Him (he is regarded by many Sufis as the only true monotheist), may lead to deep compassion in the reader for the fallen angel, irrespective of Satan’s clear misconception. Adam might have been created from mud. But he received the Almighty’s breath of life.

Attar’s work as well as new aspects of Job’s fate have come to my attention a couple of years ago when reading German/Iranian orientalist Navid Kermani’s book about Attar, Job and the metaphysical revolt (Der Schrecken Gottes, C. H. Beck, Munich 2005). Attar, who was most probably killed in the Mongolian Storm of the 13th century in the city of Nishapur in Khorasan, has something in mind which will be described as theodicy in 1710 by German philosopher Gottfried Leibniz, the problem of Evil. Kermani’s brilliant work assembles much of the medieval, enlightenment and contemporary literature on the topic without providing the reader with a final answer (except strengthening views of an agnostic). One impression I got is that in what the West in a misconception calls Middle Ages (in fact, darkness was prevalent but not in the Islamic World which was bright in these long centuries), Jews, Zoroastrians, Christians and Muslims were living in peace in, say, what is now Eastern Iran, knowing each other’s Holy Books, and getting their inspirations for spiritual journeys from both the Qur’an and the Bible.

The knowledge of our common spiritual origins may really matter when it comes to mutual respect and understanding. When comparing the sober verses about Job in the Holy Qur’an and colorful legends most Muslims are able to tell about the fate of this just, whole-hearted and upright man which are nowhere narrated in the Qur’an, we have to assume that the common traditions are still alive.

No Muslim will, of course, believe that the Almighty was betting with Satan on poor Job. There are only four suwar briefly naming Ayyub, Q4:163 and Q6:84 listing him among the other prophets; and Q21:83f and Q38:41ff where his suffering and patience is mentioned. I was long wondering, why. I had my respective revelation when reading Kermani’s book. All stories differ when told by different protagonists. Each of us has a different viewpoint, and conclusions may be to the contrary. Muslims believe that the Qur’an is God’s uncreated Word. But the Bible has been written by many authors, edited, compiled, over many centuries, by humans. God’s words may be reported, but it is not God who is speaking.

In the Book of Job, one protagonist, wretched Job, tells his version of the events. In the Qur’an, it is God Himself, who won’t admit that He was betting with the devil (actually, he did it twice!) of His servant. He would not report on His disturbing speech out of the tempest.

Regardless any theories about when and how the Holy Qur’an has been revealed or written, one has to realize the consistency when compiling God’s word, and only God’s word. It is very clear throughout that it is not Muhammad who is ever speaking.

An illuminating novel on reincarnation—a nice complement to her first book!

“I Remember You” has a different approach from Akemi’s first book, “Why We Are Born.” It is a fictional story about Alex and Derek exploring reincarnation and their past lives together.

I’m usually not a big fan of spiritual fiction because I sometimes find them kind of cheesy and forced, but I had no doubts about this one—I mean, Akemi and cheesy do not go together. As usual, her no-nonsense, simple, light-hearted style of presentation—with a touch of humor, of course—carries the story. It allows the reader to explore complicated and even uncomfortable ideas safely.

The characters—Alex and Derek—have a very different style and approach to their learning. While their thought processes work very differently, they support and complement each other as their memories re-emerge. They are very much real—I love the way that, by identifying with Alex and/or Derek, we get to go through the process of discovery (awe, confusion, frustration, questions, acceptance, etc.) together with them and recognize them in our own lives. Also, the often difficult-to-grasp concept of claircognizance is described very nicely here.

What I like about Akemi’s work is that it’s empowering. She gives you the ingredients in “Why We Are Born”, and “I Remember You” is like a sample recipe. And now, we get to be creative ourselves, using the ideas and hints that Akemi provided.
I can’t wait for her next novel ! :)

This book reads like something a fourteen year old girl would write

The people who are giving this book five stars have got to be personal friends of the author. This book reads like something a fourteen year old girl would write. What basis in reality is there for some guy to walk up to a woman he thinks he has met, but cannot place where he knows her from, and then say "Can I tell you about my dreams?" and then proceed to go into a detailed account of his dreams? ARE YOU JOKING? How did this even get published?

Very good example of Akashic discovery

Two friends meet and discover shared past life memories. The amount of information they remember would be incredulous in a nonfiction work, but it works in a fictional novel. This story takes place more in the past than in the present. In this age of new energies, the kind of interaction between Alex and Derek will be more and more common! Nice example of how the Akash works.

There just seems to be so much to learn with VB.NET and the .NET Framework to do things you've always done in VB or VBScript or any other language. Sure, you could go search for it, but just pick up this book. It'll save you hours and hours of hassle! This has been my most valuable book. Buy now!

Solid reference, resource

I wish I had this book a year ago when I first started developing with .NET! Even though I'm no longer a newbie, I'm already using this book as a one-stop reference. I tested it against other books, and this one gave me the quickest solutions for making thread "wrappers", serializing objects in different ways, and writing a timer-based Windows service (three tasks I had in an average week).
Overall, this cookbook has a little bit of everything, and the dense examples and explanations are so much better than the typical .NET programming book (most are full of fluff and theory). Even experienced developers should find a few new tricks here. For me, the security chapter was the best new material (including how to restrict permissions on dynamically loaded assemblies, encrypt objects, and use XML signatures). The ADO.NET chapter is good, but I would have liked even more. The ASP.NET and web services chapters are also good, but hard-core ASP.NET developers will probably want a dedicated cookbook for this stuff, because many topics are not covered. The early, more basic chapters, were also great--you'll be surprised how useful it is to have a list of the core .NET interfaces (for making objects serializable, convertible, disposable, comparable, etc.) and examples how to implement them. Overall, this is a great book for browsing, reviewing, or just honing your skills.

Finally, a book with one-stop shopping for VB.NET! I've read several cookbook-style programming titles in the past, and I was pleasantly surprised to find this has much more depth than I expected. It can't cover everything (.NET is huge), but every time I pick the book up I learn something new. There are so many highlights--just browse through the table of contents and you'll see what I mean!
Here are some of my favorites:
* Send keystrokes to another app
* Create a thread-safe control wrapper
* Great data-binding tips (image-to-picture box, etc.)
* Factory, Registry, Singleton, Memento, and Lazy Initialization patterns
* POP3, FTP, and Ping classes in the networking section
* How to change a password into a salted hash for storage in a database
* Use ZIP and PDF files (disclaimer: some third-party code is required, although it's free)
* Manage print jobs that are underway
* Get Windows accounts and roles
* Do hit testing with custom graphics
* Defend against SQL injection
* Dynamically generate an ASP.NET graphic
* Add ASP.NET controls on the fly
* MAPI and MCI (unfortunately, just through the ActiveX controls)
* Upload binary data with a web service

Beautiful illustrations, poetic, written with love

This book was written by Virginia Satir to help a fifteen year old girl understand life. It demonstrates in a just a few words, what we could spend a lifetime trying to learn or explain.

simple but eloquent

Virginia Satir was a gift to this world. Self Esteem is a must read for adults and children alike. I pick it up from time to time as a reminder that I am doing the very best I can in this moment- no less, no more. It is the perfect gift for a young girl experiencing a rite of passage.

Old book but still relevant

I first bought this little book in the 80's for my son going off to college. He told me many times how he would read it over and over. I recently bought it for my foster teen and she liked it also. It is wonderful simply written words of wisdom.
