Critical Race Theory Matters is a well synchronized effort by four Professors at the University of Wyoming. This work is centralized around Critical Race Theory (CRT). CRT has evolved from years of multicultural studies and education around the country. The belief is that some form of structural change is required for true equality in America to take shape. This book is a manuscript for the issues still prevalent in a segregated and racist educational system.

The purpose of this book is to explain the structural difficulties that are in place inside American Education. These difficulties are essentially described as roadblocks towards equality. The authors draw on various educational experiences from around the United States and cite several progressive racial theorists throughout their work. It is obvious that this book cumulates difficult and progressive issues that have been missed by current standardized multicultural education curricula.

The book's true strength is in the readability of language chosen by the authors and editor. Void of overwhelming educational lingo, this book does not try to hide its meaning behind educational linguistic walls. This book is the edge of a battle cry to change the educational structures as we know them today. The authors are well spoken, and are the first to admit that the power is in the struggle towards equality.

Critiques of this work would point towards the lack of solutions to these ever apparent properties. The theme is towards social justice, but the book is weighted by social inequalities. Although the authors do a fantastic job of identifying problems, solutions are left to interpretation. They point towards involving students in working towards social justice as part of a CRT classroom, but few examples are given as to what this would look like in a classroom.

This text is easy to read, easy to understand, and thus, more useful. Other books on Critical Race Theory are more difficult to read. The print on this book is bigger, and the terminology understandable.
