About the Author
A true Southerner, self-taught photographer Rick Day moved to New York City in 1994 and has become a noted name in Fashion Photography. His work has been published in numerous publications such as Elle, Details, Teen Vogue and GQ and shot advertising campaigns for Gap, Ritani and Rufskin. When not traveling, he spends his time in the East Village with his dogs Mila and Luna always shooting the hottest faces in the industry. Beautiful men, handsome men, nude men

This large format book is full of color reproductions of very beautiful muscular young men. Some of the outdoor photographs are taken in the American west and have the rugged beauty of Idaho or Wyoming or Montana. Some models are on horseback, half clothed, or hanging out in the barn wearing very little clothes. Others are photographs taken in an antique furniture shop where these young men contemplating themselves in antique mirrors resonate with the myth of Narcissus. Others are taken in a high rise apartment and the views of the boxy cityscape contrast with the flowing curves of the male body. Others take place in hotel rooms or on the beach. There are a large number of models in various states of undress.

There is something about young, almost perfect, beautiful men and that is they tend to look alike except for the fine details such as color of hair or the swirl of their navel. The differences in many of the men boil down to where they place their tattoos. The poses are sometimes athletic but more often they are erotic, enticing poses, similar to those seen in homoerotic nude men magazines. Overall the product is flawless, perfect photography of perfect men.

'Cataloguing the world's sexiest exhibitionists'

Rick Day is a fashion photographer well known for his many contributions to the magazines Elle, Details, Teen Vogue, and GQ and his particular ability to capture the essence of the macho stance has won his=m contracts with companies such as Rufskin and GAP. This is his second photographic monograph of men in the raw (his first was the very successful PLAYERS from last year, another Bruno Gm�nder Verlag winner) and this time Day takes his models to the American Southwest where they both compete with the natural beauty of the land and simultaneously enhance it.

Open this book PIONEERS and there are spectacular scenes of riding and fishing in the High Sierras. As the viewer progresses through this color-saturated collection of images there are men in the desert, the ocean, and even inside rooms, simply celebrating themselves. The models are all viscerally virile, well posed in sensitively lighted places, and put at such ease that both clothed and completely nude they embody the every essence of masculinity. The pleasures of the book are many, not the least of which is an appreciation of the wilds of nature Rick Day (and friends!) explores. This is a very large volume, well designed and on the finest paper. Another fine addition to the library celebrating the male from the very intuitive publishers at Bruno Gm�nder Verlag. Wow. Another excellent photo book from Rick Day

Wow - what a book! If you love hot men, excellent photography and a masculine theme - you will LOVE this book. "Players" is my all-time favorite book by Rick Day, but this is a close second. The fact that it has a large number of photos of model Joseph Sayers, makes it a huge win in my book. Joseph is a GOD!

The eighty years whose activities this volume contains my recollections show notable changes of scene. Beginning in a country neighbourhood, twelve miles from the nearest railroad; passing from farm to machine-shop, thence through the grades of apprentice, foreman, partner, and in time head of the business; attending numerous conventions; serving on commissions for state and nation; taking an active part in many societies and associations which had for their aim the promotion of the public weal; on frequent journeys throughout the country or abroad, making acquaintance with all sorts and conditions of men - my life, stretching as it has over that eventful period in our national history which began before the Civil War, has been most interesting to lead, and, I trust, may be found interesting to read. The assurance from many of my friends that a record of my experiences would be of interest, together with the solicitations of an editor that I contribute a series of articles to his magazine, finally overcame my doubts; and a stronger influence was the expressed belief of many that such a record might be of service.

"The First Million the Hardest: An Autobiography [1922]" by Arthur Briggs Farquhar (American Industrialist: Agricultural Equipment, 1838–1925) with Samuel Crowther is a well-written and lively autobiographical history of second-half, nineteenth century America. Though Farquhar is literally unknown today, he was a manufacturer of farm equipment and well known to the major business and political figures of his time. In addition to sharing many personal anecdotes, Farquhar gives us his experience and brief impression of all those he was acquainted with and the effect of their political and business views on the general economy. His insights into business and his actual business practices offer a serious DNA boost for those struggling to balance the forces of globalization and motivating their personnel to achieve ever greater proficiency. Similar to many contemporaries (e.g. H. J. Heinz, Harvey S. Firestone, Milton S. Hershey, John H. Patterson, James F. Lincoln, etc.) Farquhar's business practices and personnel benefits were also at least 50 years ahead of his times, and still offer the budding entrepreneur reasonable guidance. Valuable to both the weekend history buff and serious leadership student with regards to the evolution of American business and how to apply current theory to practice.

About the Author
Saxophonist Ben Britton is an active educator and performer in the U.S. His talents as a musician and composer were first nationally recognized in 2007 when he was selected to participate in a residency at the Kennedy Center as part of the Betty Carter Jazz Ahead program. Following that, Britton recorded and performed with both world renown musicians like Chris Potter and Bobby Sanabria as well as rising stars from the younger generation. His most recent recording as a leader, an EP titled Children at Play, features Philadelphia based musicians and a unique brand of jazz with influences ranging from African music to modern rock. He also performed on the album Tito Puente Masterworks Live!!! which was nominated for best Latin Jazz Album at the 2011 Latin Grammys. In 2012, Britton participated in two national saxophone competitions placing as a finalist in the Detroit Jazz Festival National Saxophone Competition and winning the 1st Annual Charlie Parker Cutting Contest hosted by NPR's 12th Street Jump.
As a music educator Britton's endeavors are numerous and varied. He has held adjunct teaching positions at various colleges including University of Pennsylvania and Ursinus College. With his brother, John, he developed a curriculum for learning to improvise over odd time signatures including play-alongs of original compositions, recordings of solos by Chris Potter over those compositions, and transcriptions and solo analyses as well. The curriculum was released in tandem with their record, Uncertain Living, and can now be found on his website. Britton also writes a blog, Everything Saxophone, that features equipment reviews and various articles on saxophone technique and jazz improvisation.

A Big Step Forward For Saxophone Teaching

I have been a professional jazz saxophone player for 20 years, and taught jazz saxophone at the college level for five years. This book is the best book on saxophone tone production I have ever seen, for several reasons. First of all, there are many books out there that contain some really good exercises for learning to control the tone, such as overtone exercises, bending exercises, mouthpiece exercises, etc. But those books lack one important detail---the don't tell you *how* to do the exercises. Britton's book contains all those standard exercises, but he also gives thoughtful, lucid, specific (and correct!) descriptions of the kinds of movements your lips, jaw, tongue, and vocal tract will need to make in order to perform the exercises given. For example, when he talks about bending exercises (which he rightly calls "tongue bends"), he makes the insightful comment that the front of the tongue should stay up while the back drops down to change the pitch. This kind of instruction is invaluable to a student who, swimming in an ocean of exercises, needs not only to be told what exercises to work on, but *how* to do them in the first place.

I would recommend this book to any saxophone student who wishes to cultivate a mature, focused tone. Saxophone teachers, this should be required reading for your students. I wish I could have read this book when I was coming along. This book, along with David Liebman's book "Developing a Personal Saxophone Tone" are the best books on tone production.

A good read!

I'm playing sax for 10 years and bought this read when I was in the middle of changing my embochure and tongue position. The tips in the book helped me a lot with the understanding of mondern sound developpement. I bought the ebook-version and read it on my smartphone. It's not a large book but clear and concise. Read it in 2 days and was ready to go change my sound :)

Foundation for solid sound

I've been taking alto lessons for two years as an adult. Working through method books, but no detailed explanation or exercises to develop a strong sound. This book lays is out, details how things fit together, has exercises to demonstrate and to develop the ideas. I haven't seen or heard this anywhere else. This has become a foundation for practice exercises. Ever want more guidance than "practice long tones"? It's here.

About the Author

William Lane Craig is a Professor of Philosophy at Talbot School of Theology and at Houston Baptist University. He earned a doctorate in philosophy at the University of Birmingham, England, before taking a doctorate in Theology from the Ludwig-Maximilians-Universitat Munchen, Germany, where he was for two years a Fellow of the Alexander von Humboldt-Stiftung. Prior to his appointment at Talbot he spent seven years at the Higher Institute of Philosophy of the Katholike Universiteit Leuven, Belgium. He has authored or edited over forty books, including The Kalam Cosmological Argument (Wipf and Stock, 2000); Divine Foreknowledge and Human Freedom (BRILL, 1999); and Theism, Atheism, and Big Bang Cosmology (OUP, 1996).

A tour of force and intellectual assault on Mathematical Platonism

This book will be much discussed by philosophers of religion and philosophers of mathematics in the years to come.

Craig critically examines the question of God's relation to abstract objects (numbers, sets, propositions, etc.), specially addressing the thrological problem posed by Plantonism, according to which abstract objects are uncreated and uncreatable.

Craig shows that the case for Platonism is unconvincing since the arguments in its favor are unsound and a number of anti-realist positions are rationally defensible.

I think Craig's arguments against Platonism are very convincing and this conclusion alone suffices to attract the interest of philosophers of mathematics in this work.

They will have to respond to Craig's systematic intellectual dismantling of Platonism.

William Lane Craig, Ph.D., has created another masterpiece! Reality is a puzzle. Many people give it little thought, while others ponder it every day of their lives. AWESOME! Craig's smartest book yet!

This book is REALLY heady, but Craig does a masterful job of breaking down a really sophisticated subject. Between Craig's sophisticated defense of free logic and pretense theory, there really is no reason to think that talk of abstract objects commits us to the existence of those objects, much less that such talk poses any threat to divine aseity.

I absolutely loved this book and recommend it to anyone!!

I am sure that public health specialists, epidimiologists, clinicians, veterinarians, statisticians, mathematicians, economists, and even professional modellers will profit from this book. I recommend it to all my students and now to the readers of Epidemiology and Infection This is an excellent text book and readers can be assured that 'it does exactly what it says on the tin': provide a thorough introduction to infectious disease modelling. I will be turning to [it] for reference frequently for its clear explanations and topical worked examples. Sexually Transmitted Infections This book has grown out of the experience of the authors teaching such a course for several years at the London School of Tropical Medicine and Hygiene. The Contents are very comprehensive, with chapters on basic terminology concerning infections and transmission, models based on difference equations, models based on differential equations, basic output from models, age patterns, stochastic modelling, contact patterns, models for sexually transmitted infections, some special topics (varicella vaccination and boosting, serotype replacement, tuberculosis control, HIV/STI co-infection) and an appendix on mathematical matters. The basic ideas are illustrated by many examples and case studies, among which several related to very up to date research and references. All relevant keywords and modern catchwords related to infectious disease modelling are mentioned and explained. European Journal of Public Health

About the Author
Emilia Vynnycky obtained a BA in Mathematics from Oxford University, followed by an MSc in Operational Research from Southampton University and a PhD in Infectious Disease Modelling at the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine (LSHTM), where she subsequently worked as a Lecturer until 2003. She is now senior scientist in the Modelling and Economics Unit at the Health Protection Agency (HPA), Centre for Infections. Emilia has worked on modelling the transmission and control of several different infectious diseases including tuberculosis, rubella, pandemic andseasonal influenza, measles and HIV. Emilia has also led the development of the LSHTM/HPA Infectious Disease Modelling MSc module and summer short course since its inception in 2001 with Richard White, and is currently an honorary Lecturer at LSHTM. Richard White obtained a BSc (Physics) from Durham University and an MSc (Medical Demography) and PhD (Infectious Disease Modelling) from the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine. He is now Senior Lecturer in Infectious Disease Modelling in the Centre for the Mathematical Modelling of Infectious Diseases at LSHTM and a Medical Research Council Methodology Research Fellow. Richard has worked extensively in recent years using mathematical modelling and classical epidemiological techniques to understand the epidemiology and control of sexually transmitted infections/HIV and other infectious diseases in developing countries. Richard is currently involved in modelling projects on the transmission and control of many infectious diseases including HIV, tuberculosis, herpes simplex virus-2, influenza, human papillomavirus and rift valley fever, in places as diverse as Senegal and Soho. He is associate editor of the journal Sexually Transmitted Infections.

Excellent textbook!

I have been teaching transmission dynamics of infectious diseases for 6 years and used Vynnycky and White for the first time this year. This book clearly explains the concepts of transmission dynamics and the students were able to develop their own model by the end of the semester. Thank you for this great textbook.

Great book to complement a class

Great introduction book. As an MPH in Epidemiology student, found the explanations to be clear cut. Not the book's fault but please note that the greek letters used by modelers are not always standardized so they may not match papers or the symbols that your teachers use

This book would not be my first choice for disease modeling. The examples were okay, but I didn't like the setup of the book and would have liked more information.
